New! :: 7zX 1.4.2

Posted on Wednesday 12 July 2006

Here is another release of 7zX, with a completely rewritten Software Update engine. You can now decide to ignore certain updates. We cannot see a reason for doing that, but someone asked us to insert this specific feature.

We recommend that you always keep your copy of 7zX updated to the latest release, in order to make sure that the data you are going to compress/decompress remains safe.

    “You can now decide to ignore certain updates.” It is a nice feeling to know that one can switch off the software’s contacting somebody, somewhere against your will and without my knowledge over the internet (that’s one important reason for me never to return to Windows, and to immediately delete anything that even suggests it could be spyware).

    How can I switch off the automated updating?

    That sentence means that 7zX simply prompts you about the existence of an update rather than downloading and installing it automatically.

    No information is sent to our servers other than the version of the 7zX application you are currently using. As soon as the PHP script that handles updates has sent its reply to your computer, the session — with any related data — is destroyed.

    No informations are stored on our computers.
