It currently only works on a Mac, although I might try and see if I can have p7zip (the compression core) use SFX modules created for other platforms.

I have had that same issue where no one wants to download another program just to decompress something done in 7z. My video 110mb … 7z = 21mb thats 5 times the savings on bandwidth and less time spent downloading. You would think people be all over it if it would save them time and money by using 7z.

I agree though 7z is the best compression algorithm around and it’s on the right path.

I can’t use a SEA 7z because for people on windows. It wont work on that OS right ? or even on linux?

What about distributing a Self-Extracting Safe 7z archive?

Just 4.9 MB, and it decompresses on any Mac with OS 10.3 or higher.

Yes, UNO 1.3 was distributed in 7z format for it’s overwhelming compression rate and my bandwidth limitations at the time.
I believe 7zip will be the future standard (as I said many times before)!
But (ther’s allways a but), I got a huge count of feedback emails stating that they would not download another app just to uncompress mine and asking to make UNO available in a standard format, that I understood it wasn’t time just yet for 7z.

Again, this is the best compression algorithm available.
The time for 7zip to became THE standard is around the corner.
But for massive distibution, unfortunately, people are not ready just yet (people are afraid of changes, I guess).

Keep 7z evolving! It’s the right path.
