New! :: 7zX 1.5.1

Posted on Tuesday 31 October 2006

7zX 1.5.1 is not your regular maintenance update: our software now automatically detects password-protected archives; also, we have completely rewritten the compression routines, which should now be much faster and efficient! :D

    I’m ignorant behind computer, and then some, how do i use 7zX 1.5.1 on a password 7-zip file? Hope that makes sense, thank you in advance.

    You just open the archive. If 7zX finds the document is protected, it will automatically prompt you for the correct password. :)

    Nice app (7zX 1.5.1)! But three issues:

    1) File names with “foreign” characters cannot be processed and end up in an error message (http://i12.tinypic.com/2ish0d0.gif). I wanted to compress a text file namend “Aussprüche”. It was finally possible after removing the “ü”. Maybe your app misses UTF file name encoding.

    2) Above error message just appears for a few seconds and not permanently (like expected). It is also not written in the Console logs. But should be. So I had to take a quick screenshot.

    3) The progress bar of 7zX is just running and not showing a real progress. But this is important if you compress a large file or folder, because many people might think your app hangs and force quit and delete 7zX.

    Thanks, Rico

    Hello,

    1) You are right! Utf16 supports appears to have been turned off! How could this happen? I am going to fix this as soon as I can.

    2-3) Right now, I cannot evaluate what messages the compression core is sending out, just forward them to the log field. This means that I can’t see if p7zip returned any errors or just how the task is progressing. A future version is going to fix all these annoyances.

    Taskman, is it simply a drag and drop in unzipping an archive? I had a 26 MB archive that still wasn’t opening after an hour, is that common as well. Again, being a newbie in general i wanted to be sure i was doing everything right before i gave up, attempting to find a Mac application that opened password encrypted 7-zip files. Thank you for the education as well.

    peace,
    g

    You can expand an archive by either double-clicking on its icon or dropping its icon on 7zX. :)
