Here is a new version of 7zX, just to keep things in working conditions.
Non-common glyphs, such as german umlauts, are now properly saved and restored. Also, version 1.6.1 supports new types of segmented archives, and features some decent speed improvements.
I just get “Error: There is no such archive” when ever I drop a folder on the installed 7zX.
Just to add to that… The problem happens when using Finder to drag a folder to the 7zX icon in Applications or doc. It seems to work right only from the desktop to the doc.
I made various tests, and cannot reproduce the bug you just reported.
• Which version of the Mac OS are you using?
• Where did you install 7zX?
• How is the folder you are trying to compress named?
• Does the full path to the folder you are trying to compress or to 7zX contain strange characters?
It is now working ok! I have no idea what could have changed but I have just done some tests and it is now fine. I had draged it to Applications when I installed it.
Thanks for looking into it.
This is a superb program that everyone should use for their archiving. Thanks!
Great job!
I just had the same issue as Scotsman. When I drag an .app Folder from a folder directly on the app (which resists in /Applications/User Apps on my system, I keep my installed apps separated from all other apps that Apple ships or installs on the system), I get the error, “No such archive”. If I place the 7zX app into the dock, put the .app Folder to Desktop and drag it from Desktop to the Dock item, then it works as expected
I never had that issue with previous versions.
Can you tell me the original path of the .app folder you were trying to compress?
(Before you moved it to the Desktop.)
Is there a command line interface to this app? I’m looking for it so that it can be used in shell scripts etc.
I have to replace some parts with placeholders (to not give out internal company information). Just be assured, that every blah is a placeholder for another piece of text that only contains ASCII letters (upper or lower case) and numbers, I left spaces where spaces where found:
/Users/blah/Projects/blahProducts/BLAHBlah4/Source/Bundle/BLAH Blah 4 (1234).app
This causes an error as described. If I move it to Desktop, so the path is
/Users/blah/Desktop/BLAH Blah 4 (1234).app
then it works like expected. Any ideas?
Puppy: I still can’t reproduce the bug you are reporting. Could you eMail me an AIM/MSN address of yours, so that I can contact you and have a better chance of looking into the matter?
Shaun McDonald: p7zip is the tool you are looking for.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/p7zip/
I am using version 1.6.1 and I can make regular 7z archives with no problems.
However if I create a self-extracting archive on my external firewire hdd I ALWAYS get this error:
set owner/group (was: 501/0): Operation not permitted
Hello,
has your external hard disk been formatted using HFS?
I have a little problem with applescript & 7zx. I’ve set up a little automator routine for backing up 300 mb of data. I known that 7zx doesn’t support applescript yet, however i’ve tried to handle with system events. There is only one problem, applescript isn’t able to click “ok” in the setting up window of 7zx. I can choose the compression level, add a password, choose a volume size but i cannot find a way to click ok using applescript. Here is my applescript:
tell application “System Events”
delay 15
keystroke space
keystroke “u”
keystroke space
keystroke space
keystroke return
keystroke tab
keystroke tab
keystroke tab
keystroke “mypassword”
keystroke tab
keystroke “mypassword”
keystroke tab
set the clipboard to “9″
keystroke “v” using command down
keystroke return
end tell
thanks for your work
That’s weird, since hitting return manually seems to work…
This app is AMESOME!!!!!!!
Thanx Mr. Taskman ^_^
Thanks for your appreciation!
